Thank you for sharing and God bless you and your family
Thank you for sharing your personal experience, I can't even imagine how difficult this visitation restriction is on you and your husband and family, but your story really helped me feel your pain. I will carry your story with me day to day when caring for my patients.
I'm about to burst into tears again!
These stories are so powerful. Thank you.
I've been crying since the 1st guest speaker began. These 2 cases are heartbreaking. All HCP are experiencing this gut-wrenching stories.
God bless you, your mother and your family!
Thank you!…This is making me so sad hearing from the families.
Thank you to everyone in the audiance who are supporting our loved ones, when families are behind the windo.
These are real stories not just rules and theories
Amen to that David
Needed a Kleenex warning before this webinar.... :(
How are you boosting resident’s spirits and family support during the holiday season?
We have been decorating their doors and the hallways for Christmas. It's a competition between departments and we are having fun!
Playing holiday songs during meal times over the speaker so the whole building can hear
we have bingo that we are going to do holiday cards with Christmas theme.
Our activities department has excelled in being innovative during this time not just holidays. We are doing the same as we do every year but taking those traditions directly to them instead on big gatherings
These are great ideas!
Guest Speaker #1
thanks to all for listening, and for your love and support.
We are continuing our Christmas celebrations. They are just not open to the public. We have been getting xmas photo cards sent out to families and friends. Families are welcome to send care packages and we are also continuing with window visits as well as virtual visits.
We are sending photos of the resident to their family members in a Christmas card
Guest Speaker #2
Guest #2 here...I echo the sentiment of Guest #1. And I want you to know that I will pray for you, your husband and your family.

we put stockings outside their doors and put a different surprise in it every day in Dec.We encouraged families to send holiday greeting to play during meal times.
What have you done to promote staff education and ensure they are carrying out actions to prevent the spread of infection?
We are using relias and having staff update their infection control training
I have what I call "potty papers" It is educational material posted in the bathroom for reading while you're doing your business.
Guest Speaker #1
Guest #1 here: thank you to Guest #2! I’ll be keeping you and your mom in my prayers.

Refer to your state’s guidance COVID-19 vaccine dissemination plan• Iowa https://idph.iowa.gov/Emerging-Health-Issues/Novel-Coronavirus/Vaccine• Illinois http://www.dph.illinois.gov/covid19/vaccination-plan• Colorado https://covid19.colorado.gov/covid-19-vaccine-development-and-planning• Oklahoma https://oklahoma.gov/covid19/vaccine-information.html
What is your strategy to disseminate the COVID-19 vaccine in your organization and promote to those who are hesitant about vaccines?
We're doing a mass mailing ahead of time, from our medical director, to residents and POAs/family members. It explains how the vaccines were tested, and that our medical director feels they are safe. And gives more resources to them.

We are doing staff huddles to try to educate. Our younger staff is worried about side effects with reproductive system. Do you have any insight to combat against that?
We will provide a YouTube video in each of our facilities and posting on Social Media pages Dec 16th.

One more thing - I heard on an NHSN call today that they are looking to add COVID-19 vaccination reporting to NHSN.
The vaccine has not been tested in pregnant or breastfeeding women, or women 'planning to beome pregnant' unfortunately. Most experts have said things along the line of 'we have no reason to believe that there would be problems' with those groups, but they have been excluded from testing so far. Women of reproductive age who are not in one of these groups (pregnant, breastfeeding, actively pursuing pregnancy) have been well prepresented in testing and should not be concerned.
Would suggest they reach out to their providers to share their fears and get their provider's recommendations for how to combat those potential side effects
Thank you Dr Brock!
Does the new quarantine time include the quarantine of admission which is 14 days?
Thank you Dr. Brock
thank YOU Wendy - excellent advice to consult one's own provider..!
You can chat in your questionsorYou may verbally ask a question. To unmute yourself use the phone icon on the Zoom platform and/or on your phone or you can press *6 on your phone keypad.
I also read that people who have had severe allergic reactions to other vaccines or drugs should not take the vaccine at this time. Is that true?
is there a fact sheet yet, we haven’t been able to find one
and is there info on MDS to put in who got them like they have for flu and pneumonia. For now we will be paper tracking staff and residents
Yes! good education sheets for family
The Fact Sheets will be released when EUA is approved. Consent forms are being sent to facilities from CVS/Omnicare
If your question was unanswered please send us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
so if we are getting the vaccines from our county health department we can ask then. we will not be using CVS.
Does anyone want to share some best practice for infection prevention that stands out that would be helpful for everyone on the call? What do you do to boost the mood of your team?
special meals on the holidays. holiday week with different events
Doing an ugly sweater contest
We are having a Christmas spirit week
we are looking at doing a “golden ticket”. it is a paid day off
The above provides a link to a presentation this week

different dress up days like the 12 days of Christmas. The residents like to see the fun staff is having.
We try to schedule them off at least either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. We have asked Hospice to provide Olive Garden for our Staff for their Christmas Party in lieu of a potluck. We have door prizes for every employee.
Yes! We are going to implement scheduled handwashing on the dementia unit. I have been hearing that it decreases infection and improves the overall health.
Happy Moments build reslieience!
people with a history of anaphylaxis - certainly to a vaccine, but also to foods or medicines - should not yet receive the COVID vaccine, unless directed to do so, and under the care of a physician qualified to make recommendations. These people (hx of allergic rxn to vaccines) were also excluded from these first rounds of trials, and then 2 HCWs in the UK who had a hx of allergic reactions did indeed react to the COVID vaccine
